Startupbootcamp Scale Osaka
Despite the impact of COVID-19 on the economy of Japan and the world, Japan's startup ecosystem has continued to strengthen and so too has interest from overseas tech companies in entering the Japanese market.
We have seen first hand an increase in the amount of activities from ecosystem participants such as those involved in the Osaka Startup Ecosystem Consortium and other similar consortiums linked to the governments Startup Cities initiative.
We also received an increase in applications from last year, seeing 550 applications this time from scaleup companies interested in working with our Japanese corporate partners via this program. The generosity of our startup ecosystem players has also increased, with over 70 Japan based entrepreneurs, country managers, investors and professionals giving their valuable time to support our program as mentors.
We look forward to continuing to build and grow the capabilities of Osaka and Japan as a truly world-class innovation hub, and destination for great tech companies and the talent that comes with them over the following years.

Despite COVID-19 forcing the entire program online (and a state of emergency in Osaka causing additional delays to PoC implementation), our Scaleups and Partners adapted to the “new normal” and made impressive progress with their collaborative pilots, throughout our 3 month program (Nov 24, 2020 - Feb 26, 2021).
Via our programming, and thanks to the generous efforts of our “Japan-expert” Mentors, our Scaleups learned about the various aspects of successful Japan market entry (Japanese business culture, operating as a foreigner, marketing/branding, sales/business development, fundraising, recruiting, establishing etc), and built a strong network to accelerate their traction post-program.
Through our tailored, hands-on PoC design & facilitation support, and thanks to both sides’ patience, hard-work, & dedication, we are excited not only for their immediate PoC outcomes, but also to watch the relationships formed between them, flourish into real business impact for both sides.
